Welcome to the Ladybugs

3.5-5 yrs

The Ladybug Class is for preschoolers and pre-K ages 3.5 to 5. With this mixed-age group, we work on social and emotional skill-building and pre-kindergarten academics.

Dorothy has been teaching in the Ladybug room for several years and is our morning lead. She has worked at Unity for over a decade. Her co-teacher, Olivia, is in her third year of teaching in the Ladybug room. S has worked at Unity for 5 years and has been a float, kitchen assistant, and a teacher assistant in many classrooms. She became a permanent fixture in the Ladybug class in 2024.

Throughout our day, we practice mindful activities and breathing techniques. Drink plenty of water, do yoga, and find other ways to help our bodies regulate. Throughout the year, we learn the letters of the alphabet, practice counting skills, engage in various fine-motor activities, learn to use the space around us, value our environment, and build friendships. Our classroom space is arranged to allow the children to experiment and explore, learn through hands-on activities, and engage with the world around them. We use the garden at least once a week, use the barn for rainy-day play, take field trips to farms, restaurants, and museums, and perform community service. We always do a food drive for our school’s families!

We encourage our classroom students to be responsible for their own projects and messes. We teach them how to use their words with one another and develop teamwork as a class. Our goal is for each student to feel valued and cherished.
